Vibration Test - Repetitive Shock Test
Scope To determine integrity and protective performance of packaging in event of vibration / repetitive shock during transit.
Reference ASTM D999, ASTM D4332
Test Procedure
  • The test specimens should be condition as per standard WATER-GDC-T099.
  • The test is performed on a mechanical rotary vibration machine. The machine will vibrate at 25.4mm displacement & packages will be subjected to a total duration of 120 minutes at two different orientations. Start the vibration table at its lowest speed of frequency. Maintain the 25.4 mm fixed displacement and slowly increase the speed (frequency) of the vibration table until the test sample begins to momentarily leave the surface of the vibration table. Record the speed in cycles per minute (CPM) or frequency in cycles per second (Hz) and stop the vibration table.
  • The vibration test duration in minutes to be used is 120 minutes at two different orientations.
  • Start the vibration table to vibrate at the speed (CPM) or frequency (Hz) identified in step one and perform test for 60 minutes.
  • Then rotate the test sample 90 degrees horizontally. Resume the vibration speed (CPM) or frequency (Hz) for the test duration of 60 minutes.
  • The first orientation will be normal shipping orientation in which the test specimen is transported.
  • The second orientation should be next probable orientation in which the test specimen is transported.
Evaluation After the test conduct complete physical evaluation of test specimen should not have detached, loose, fractured, damaged or dislocated components or assemblies and the packaged product should perform as per its desired functional requirements.
Level of Acceptance / Success Criteria The packaged product should perform as per its desired functional requirements without any damage.
All test specimens should pass the test.
